star coupling is a flexible mechanical coupling used to connect two rotating shafts and transmit torque while allowing for slight misalignment between them. It consists of two metal hubs with interlocking jaws and a star-shaped elastomer insert, also called a spider, placed between the hubs. The elastic insert transmits power from the driving shaft to the driven shaft while absorbing shocks, reducing vibrations, and minimizing noise during operation. Star couplings are easy to install, require little maintenance, and the insert can be replaced without removing the hubs. They are widely used in electric motors, pumps, compressors, conveyors, fans, and other industrial machinery where smooth and reliable power transmission is required.
