A tandoor (/tænˈdʊər/ or /tɑːnˈdʊər/) is a large urn-shaped oven, usually made of clay, originating from the Indian Subcontinent. Since antiquity, tandoors have been used to bake unleavened flatbreads, such as roti and naan, as well as to roast meat.The word Tandoor means a cylindrical oven used for baking and cooking. Traditionally the fuel used in Tandoor is charcoal or firewood. Modern Tandoor ovens uses cooking gas and electricity also instead of charcoal.All square tandoor models are DOUBLE BODY with DOUBLE INSULATION (Ceramic). i.e. they have 2 chassis – one on the outside (Stainless Steel) and another Steel Body on the inside covering the pot. In between the 2 bodies is the Ceramic Insulation acting as a sandwich.Put simply, tandoori involves marinated meat being cooked over an intense fire in a tandoor, a clay oven. The meat is lowered into the oven on long metal skewers and cooked in this smoky and extremely hot environment until done.Tandoori is a cooking method by which food is cooked in a clay oven over charcoal, gas or electric. It is named after the oven it was traditionally cooked in, which is called a Tandoor. Meat is marinated in yogurt and spices, while breads like naan and roti are often pressed against the side walls of the tandoor.One of the biggest benefits to cooking with tandoor ovens is that once they heat up to the desired temperature, they maintain that temperature for hours without the need for additional fuel.
