Silicon Nitride (Si₃N₄) Inserts Excellent thermal shock resistance. High fracture toughness and impact resistance. Used for cast iron, superalloys, and high-speed machining. B. Alumina (Al₂O₃) Inserts High wear resistance and hardness. Good for continuous cutting operations. Used for hardened steels, cast iron, and finishing applications. C. Mixed Ceramic Inserts (Al₂O₃ + TiC or Si₃N₄) Enhanced toughness and wear resistance. Balanced performance for semi-finishing and roughing. Used for steel, hardened materials, and superalloys. D. Whisker-Reinforced Ceramic Inserts Contains silicon carbide (SiC) whiskers for extreme toughness. High-speed machining of nickel-based superalloys (Inconel, Hastelloy). E. Coated Ceramic Inserts Thin coatings of TiN, TiCN, or Al₂O₃ improve performance. Increased heat and wear resistance. Used in high-speed machining of hardened materials.
