The Raychem SC13 Surge Monitor is a device used to track the performance and condition of surge arresters in electrical systems by counting surges and measuring leakage current. Features and Functionality Surge Counting: The primary function is to detect and record the number of transient overvoltage events (surges) using a 6-digit cyclometer display. The minimum count current threshold is 200 amps (8/20 microsecond wave). Leakage Current Measurement: Unlike the basic SC12 model, the Raychem SC13 features a built-in analogue milli-ammeter (0-30 mA scale, or 0-50 mA for the obsolete SC13L version) to measure the total leakage current. Monitoring changes in this current helps identify arrester deterioration or surface contamination. Self-Powered: The device operates without the need for an external or auxiliary power supply, drawing power from the surge event itself. Durable Design: It is housed in a single-piece, gravity die-cast aluminum case that is weatherproof and sealed for life, making it suitable for severe indoor or outdoor applications. Easy Installation: The monitor is designed for simple installation in the earth connection of a single surge arrester using an integral mounting lug and supplied M12 bolt. Auxiliary Contact Option: A version designated the SC13AC is available, which includes an auxiliary contact (rated 0.5 amps 250V) for connection to remote signaling or SCADA systems.
