A Tilted Plate Interceptor (TPI) is an advanced oil-water separation system designed to remove free oil, grease, and suspended solids from wastewater. It works on the principle of gravity separation, using a series of inclined or tilted plates to improve the separation efficiency of oil and water within a compact treatment unit.The wastewater containing oil, grease, and suspended particles enters the TPI unit and flows through a series of closely spaced inclined plates. These plates increase the effective surface area available for separation and reduce the distance that oil droplets and suspended particles must travel. Due to the difference in specific gravity, lighter oil droplets move upward and attach to the underside of the inclined plates, where they combine with other droplets to form larger oil globules. These larger oil droplets then rise towards the surface and are collected in an oil collection chamber for removal.Similarly, heavier suspended solids settle downward along the inclined plates and accumulate in the sludge collection section at the bottom of the unit. The separated water continues flowing through the system and exits through the treated water outlet for further treatment or disposal, depending on the required water quality standards.The TPI system enhances the efficiency of oil and grease removal by promoting coalescence and gravity separation.
