Introduction to Trommel Screens Trommel screens are rotary screening devices widely used in mineral processing, waste management, and aggregate industries for size-based material separation. Their robust design and ability to handle wet, sticky, and heterogeneous materials make them a preferred choice over conventional vibrating screens in specific applications. Working Principle of Trommel Screens A trommel screen consists of a rotating cylindrical drum inclined at a slight angle (typically 3°–7°). The drum is perforated with holes of specific sizes depending on the required separation. Material is fed into the higher end of the drum. As the drum rotates: Finer particles pass through the screen apertures. Larger particles move forward due to gravity and rotational motion. Internal lifters enhance material agitation and exposure to the screening surface. The separation process is continuous and gravity-assisted, ensuring steady throughput.
