This hybrid device combines two critical textile functions: Yarn Tensioner: Controls the tension of yarn as it's fed through machinery, using mechanisms like spring-loaded discs, weights, or motorized control to ensure consistent yarn pull. Slub Catcher: Detects and handles thicker or irregular parts (slubs) in the yarn, preventing them from reaching sensitive components like knitting needles or winding spindles. Some types accommodate the slub by sandwiching it between discs, while others opt to trigger stop-motion devices or sever the yarn to maintain quality. A classic mechanical design includes: Pair of Discs: Yarn passes between them; one disc is spring-loaded to maintain tension. Adjustable Spring: Controls the pressure between the discs, thus adjusting yarn tension. Adjustable Stop (Boss): Limits how far the discs separate when a slub passes between them, reducing the effective opening size to catch the irregularity and often trigger a stop motion.
