Which heating element is used in geyser?
The part that heats the water inside an electric geyser is a simple metal rod, normally called an immersion heater. An electric hot water heater typically has one or two heating elements, depending on the size and design of the unit. Most standard residential water heaters use two elements—an upper and a lower one—to ensure efficient and even heating throughout the tank. The upper element heats the water at the top of the tank first, and once it reaches the set temperature, the lower element activates to heat the remaining water. Larger commercial units may have more than two elements, sometimes up to nine, to handle higher water volumes. Having multiple elements allows for faster heating and better temperature control, making dual-element systems popular for homes and businesses. Why is my geyser not getting hot?
A geyser stops producing hot water for a handful of straightforward reasons. The part that actually warms the water is a metal heating element - when it burns out, no heat is produced. Before suspecting anything else, confirm that the unit has power - check the wall switch and the distribution board breaker. A broken thermostat will also leave the water cold, because it no longer tells the element when to switch on. In districts with hard water, chalky scale settles on the element and acts like insulation - the water takes far longer to warm. A shut or partly blocked stop valve limits the flow into the cylinder plus the result is lukewarm water at the tap. After ruling out the above, the fault usually lies in the printed circuit board or in the internal wiring - at that point a qualified technician should open the appliance.
How to check a geyser element?
To check a geyser element, first switch the power off for safety. Take off the outer cover and pull the wires off the element. Set a multimeter to continuity or ohms then place one probe on each terminal. A number on the screen - about 10 - 16 ohms depending on wattage - shows the element is probably sound. Now leave one probe on a terminal plus place the other on the bare metal shell. A second reading here means the element is shorted to earth and must be replaced. A blank display means the insulation is intact. If the element passes both tests yet the water stays cold, check every wire but also the thermostat again before restoring power.
