Shot peening is a commonly used mechanical process that helps improve surface residual stresses for industrial and commercial metal. This enhances the life of your metal for immediate and long-term use. Shot peening is often confused with abrasive shot blasting, but those two processes have very different effects. Shot blasting is used primarily to rid metals of corrosion and rust, while shot peening is the preferred method to toughen metal and increase its strength. The shot peening technology utilized by Superior Shot Peening consists of tiny balls of cast steel shot on the metallic surface of your pieces. This process forms small indentations in the surface with enough force to sufficiently strengthen the metal and relieve stress.
