A 3 x 185 + 1 x 120 HT ABC (High Tension Aerial Bunched Cable) is a specialized overhead medium-voltage power cable designed for 11kV or 33kV distribution networks. This specific configuration includes three 185 mm² insulated phase conductors and one 120 mm² insulated messenger/neutral conductor.Core Construction Phase Conductors (3 x 185 mm²): Composed of circular compacted stranded H68 aluminium. Each phase core is independently insulated with XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) to withstand high electrical stress. Messenger Conductor (1 x 120 mm²): Often made of high-strength aluminium alloy (AAAC) or galvanized steel. This core acts as the mechanical support for the entire bundle and often doubles as the neutral/earth return. Protective Layers: Typically includes an extruded semi-conductive conductor screen, an insulation screen, and a durable outer sheath of HDPE or PVC for UV and weather resistance. Performance SpecificationsAccording to data from manufacturers such as Demka and Kingyear: Voltage Grade: Primarily used in 11kV or 33kV systems. Current Capacity: A 185 mm² aluminium phase conductor typically supports a continuous current rating of approximately 400A to 450A, depending on ambient temperature and installation standards. Operational Limits: Supports a maximum continuous operating temperature of 90°C and can handle short-circuit temperatures up to 250°C. Durability: Significantly reduces power theft and accidental contact faults compared to bare overhead conductors.
