The “typical” reciprocating compressor is used for discharge pressures up to 12,000 psi (828 bar). Special compressors (called hypercompressors) are used in low-density polyethylene production and discharge at pressures up to 50,000 psi (3500 bar).Most electric motors found on compressors will operate at approximately 1,725 or 3,400 rpm. Typically compressors that have higher CFM ratings are able to provide more air, which makes them ideal for larger applications.
