The Siemens LFE10 is a specialized flame supervision unit (flame amplifier) used for the supervision of gas and oil flames. Unlike the LFL or LME series, the LFE10 is not a full sequence controller; it is a dedicated flame relay that monitors the presence of a flame and provides a signal to a master controller or a PLC. 1. Key Features and Operation Dual Monitoring: It can be used for either ionization probes (gas) or UV detectors (QRA series for gas/oil). Self-Checking: The unit is designed for continuous operation or intermittent operation, depending on the flame sensor used. Signal Output: It provides a potential-free (dry) contact that closes when a flame is detected. Indication: Features a signal lamp (LED) on the front to show the flame status: Off: No flame or unit powered off. On (Green): Flame detected and signal is stable. 3. Terminal Connection (Internal Logic) The LFE10 typically plugs into an AGM13.1 terminal base. Terminals 1 & 2: Power supply (Line and Neutral). Terminal 3: Common for the flame relay. Terminal 4: Normally Open (NO) contact (Closes on flame detection). Terminal 5: Normally Closed (NC) contact (Opens on flame detection). Terminal 11 / 12: Connection for the UV detector (QRA) or Ionization probe. 4. Specific Sensor Usage Depending on the sensor, the behavior of the LFE10 changes slightly: Ionization: Used for gas burners. It detects the rectification of the AC current by the flame. UV Detector (QRA): For gas or oil. The LFE10 provides the necessary voltage to the UV tube. Note: If using a QRA sensor for continuous operation (burning for more than 24 hours without stop), a specialized self-checking sensor like the QRA5 is usually required along with a different control logic. 5. Application Example The LFE10 is frequently used in: Multi-burner systems: Where one central PLC controls the sequence of 10 different burners, each having its own LFE10 for individual flame supervision. Industrial Kilns/Furnaces: Where simple "Flame/No Flame" logic is required for safety interlocks.
