The Siemens LGB series is a range of electromechanical burner controllers designed for the supervision of small to medium-capacity gas or gas/oil burners. While many modern systems have transitioned to the digital LME series, the LGB remains a staple in existing boiler plants, industrial ovens, and atmospheric burners. 1. Key Technical Specifications The LGB operates using a motorized sequence switch that physically rotates to open and close contacts at specific intervals. Popular LGB Models & Timing The model number determines the pre-purge time ($t_1$) and the safety time ($TSA$). LGB21.330: Standard for 2-stage gas burners. ($t_1 = 30\text{s}$, $TSA = 3\text{s}$) LGB21.130: Fast-start version for gas burners. ($t_1 = 7\text{s}$, $TSA = 3\text{s}$) LGB22.330: Designed for gas/oil dual fuel or burners with oil pre-heaters. ($t_1 = 30\text{s}$, $TSA = 3\text{s}$) LGB41.255: Specifically for atmospheric gas burners. ($t_1 = 25\text{s}$, $TSA = 5\text{s}$) 3. Visual Fault Diagnosis Because the LGB is electromechanical, the cause of a lockout is indicated by the position of the sequence indicator (the small dial visible behind the reset button). Symbol Meaning Potential Cause No Symbol Startup Interrupted No "Start" signal from thermostat or limit controller. $P$ Air Pressure Failure Air switch didn't close, fan motor failed, or blocked intake. $\blacktriangle$ Extraneous Light Flame signal detected during pre-purge (leaking valve). $1$ Ignition Failure No flame detected by the end of safety time ($TSA$). 4. Flame Monitoring Methods Ionization Probe: The most common method for gas. It measures the "rectification" effect of the flame. UV Detector (QRA): Used for larger burners or dual fuel. Note that most LGB units require an AGQ1 or AGQ2 ancillary module to interface with a UV sensor. 5. Retrofitting Note If you are replacing an old LGB unit, the Siemens LME is the direct digital successor. LGB21 is usually replaced by LME21. LGB22 is usually replaced by LME22. The terminal base (AGM) is compatible, but you must verify that the safety time ($TSA$) of the new LME matches the original LGB to comply with local safety regulations.
