It is equipped with gears which can be used to adjust the speed of the headstock thereby enabling a convenient operation of the machine to carry out a specific task with the required speed, the part of a machine containing or directly supporting the moving or working parts, as the assembly supporting and driving the live spindle in a lathe.A gear is a rotating circular machine part having cut teeth or, in the case of a cogwheel or gearwheel, inserted teeth (called cogs), which mesh with another (compatible) toothed part to transmit (convert) torque and speed.
