Vertical turning lathes (VTL) are machines that orient the spindle in the vertical plane in a fixed position. The workpiece then spins, moving up and down to put it in line with the cutting head. These machines are less complex than horizontal lathes.Utilizing gravity to stabilize a workpiece, the vertical turret lathe is an ideal machine for large, heavy workpieces. With the addition of a CNC control in the KNUTH Verturn II VDM CNC, a greater level of precision and positioning accuracy can be achieved for more sophisticated projects.A CNC vertical mill machine has cylindrical cutters oriented vertically on a spindle axis.
