Cold forming – often known as cold roll forming – is a forging technique used to shape metal materials at near room temperature. Forming metal at cooler temperatures retains or enhances the tensile strength of the material while still allowing high levels of intricate manipulation.Cold rolling is a process by which metal is passed through rollers at temperatures below its recrystallization temperatures. The metal is compressed and squeezed, increasing the yield strength and hardness of the metal.A roll forming machine accomplishes the fabrication process by sending sheet metal—most commonly coiled steel—through a series of fixed rollers, which continuously and incrementally bend the metal into the required form.
