MIL-D-3464 MILITARY SPECIFICATIONS MIL-D-3464E is a US military specification pertaining to bagged, chemically inert , dehydrating agents (Desiccants) that prevent corrosion and mildew by adsorbing the moisture from the air of an enclosed space. The specification is further divided into Type 1 & Type 2.The MIL-D-3464 military specification (MIL SPEC) covers the requirements for activated, bagged desiccants used to control humidity in sealed containers and packages: Desiccant material: Desiccants are chemically inert, moisture-absorbing materials that prevent corrosion and mildew. They can be made of bentonite clay or silica gel. Desiccant unit: The desiccant is purchased based on its adsorption capacity. The unit weight and unit volume of the desiccant are defined. Unit content per bag: The number of desiccant units in each bag must be clearly marked on the bag label. Unit adsorption rate: The desiccant must adsorb the weight of water vapor in seven hours. Humidity control: A desiccant unit must prevent a closed metal box from exceeding 60 percent relative humidity (R.H.). Type 1 and Type 2: The specification is divided into Type 1 and Type 2. Desiccants are used to maintain dryness in many applications, including preserving food, preventing moisture damage to electronics, and controlling odors
