Dimethylacetamide (DMAc) is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a mild, ammoniacal odor. Its chemical formula is (CH3)2NCOCH3. DMAc is a versatile solvent commonly used in various industrial applications, particularly in organic synthesis, polymer processing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. It is valued for its high solvency power, ability to dissolve a wide range of organic and inorganic compounds, and its relatively low toxicity compared to other solvents.
