The DUNGS VPS 504 is an automatic Valve Proving System (VPS) designed to check the tightness of gas shut-off valves before every burner start or after every shutdown. It is most commonly used with the DUNGS DMV double solenoid valves and GasMultiBloc (MB) units. 1. How It Works (The Pressure Build-up Principle) Unlike simple pressure switches, the VPS 504 has an internal motor pump. Phase 1: It pumps gas from the inlet (upstream of Valve 1) into the space between the two safety valves. Phase 2: It increases the pressure in that middle section by approximately 20 mbar above the inlet pressure. Phase 3: It monitors this "test volume" for a set period (10 to 26 seconds). If the pressure holds: The yellow "Run" LED lights up, and a contact is closed to allow the burner to start. If the pressure drops: The red "Fault" LED lights up, and the system locks out the burner. 2. Model Differences The series number indicates how the unit is connected electrically: S01: Includes a 7-pin plug-in connector (DIN 4791) for "plug-and-play" installation with many boilers. S02: Includes a DIN 43650 plug (like a solenoid valve plug). Often used in 230V or 24V DC configurations. S04: Features screw terminals inside the unit with a PG 13.5 cable gland (highest protection, IP54). S05: The 24V DC version for gas engines or mobile applications. S06: The 110–120V AC version specifically for the North American market. 4. Installation & Mounting Direct Mount: The VPS 504 mounts directly to the side of a DUNGS DMV or MB valve body. It comes with two O-rings that seal against the test ports on the valve. Orientation: It can be mounted horizontally or vertically, but never upside down (the motor pump cannot function properly in that position). Maintenance: It is a maintenance-free electronic device, but the internal filter (on the p1/p2 connections) should be inspected annually for clogging. Safety Warning: If the VPS 504 goes into a red light (Fault) condition, do not simply reset it repeatedly. This indicates a physical leak in one of your safety valves (Valve 1 or Valve 2). The valves must be leak-tested manually before returning the system to service.
