Fibre reinforced plastic (FRP), is a somersetting plastic strengthened with fibre strand and/or fabric reinforcements to provide a strong, corrosion resistant matrix.The fibreglass reinforcements are pulled through a bath of thermostat resin — typically polyester or vinyl ester — as well as pigments to add color, filler to enhance properties, and a catalyst to aid in curing. Resin also provides an additional form of reinforcement.GRP Water tanks, or Glass Reinforced Plastic water tanks, are now the leading industry standard water containment unit currently found on the market. Given their lightweight, sturdy yet workable fibreglass design, GRP tanks provide safe storage for water without the risk of corrosion or contamination from bacteria.The strength degradation of FRP is caused by diffusion of HCl into the FRP. The lifetime of FRP for HCl storage is 15–20 years.
