Technical Specifications & Costs Depending on your home's load, you will need a specific type of meter. Three-Phase Net Meter: For larger homes or small businesses (above 5kW). Cost is approx. ₹7,000 – ₹10,000. Smart Net Meters: These often include Wi-Fi or GSM connectivity so you can track your exports on a mobile app in real-time. The Installation Process You cannot simply buy a net meter and install it yourself. Because it connects to the public grid, there is a formal process: Application: You apply to your local DISCOM (Electricity Board). Solar Completion: Your solar installer finishes the system and submits a "Work Completion Report." Inspection: A utility officer inspects the wiring and safety features (like the earthing and "Island Protection"). Replacement: The utility company replaces your old meter with the new Bi-directional Net Meter.
