It is intended to cut cross and other grooves in wood by employing an S-shaped cutter in combination with two cir cular saws, these three tools being fixed on a horizontal revolving mandrel, which can be adjusted to suit whatever depth it may be re quisite to cut the groove.Grooving tools are used with lathes to cut channels on the end of a workpiece (face grooving) or into an existing bore (internal grooving). They are used for applications such as creating recesses for retaining rings and necking workpieces to ensure a clean fit when mating parts.The term grooving usually applies to a process of forming a narrow cavity of a certain depth, on a cylinder, cone, or a face of the part. The groove shape, or at least a significant part of it, will be in the shape of the cutting tool.
