It's known for its high hardness, toughness, and heat resistance. Heat treatment Preheat H13 tool steel to 1500°F (816°C) Increase the temperature to 1850°F (1010°C) and hold for 15–40 minutes Air-quench the steel Tempering Temper H13 steel immediately after quenching Temper at a temperature between 1000–1150°F (538–621°C) Hold the steel at the tempering temperature for 1 hour per inch of thickness Let it cool normally for 2 hours
