An Automotive Road Wheel Helium Leak Testing Machine is a high-throughput, non-destructive quality control station engineered to detect microscopic structural porosities, fissures, and blowhole defects in cast aluminium alloy, forged steel, or magnesium road wheels. The system operates on a high-vacuum mass spectrometry principle. A finished, machined wheel is automatically indexed and loaded into a heavy-duty vacuum test chamber. Specialized elastomeric seals clamp down tightly onto the wheel's tire bead seats and bolt-hole face, effectively isolating the wheel into separate internal and external pressure zones. The main testing chamber is rapidly evacuated to a high vacuum, while the interior cavity of the wheel is pressurized with a specific blend of Helium (He) tracer gas. If any microscopic pathways exist through the solid metal structure, the helium molecules immediately slip into the vacuum chamber, where an ultra-sensitive mass spectrometer detects them and calculates the precise leak rate.
