What does a Paper Machine Winder do? Paper machine winders or paper machine rewinders are used to convert the parent reels coming from the paper or board machine by slitting or cutting off the paper web into narrower rolls called daughter reels.To put things simply, the main role of a slitting machine is to convert (slit) papers, film and foil materials so that large rolls of these materials can be cut into narrower rolls. A slitting machine consists of three main parts; the unwind, the slitter and the rewind.In log slitting the roll of material is treated as a whole (the 'log') and one or more slices are taken from it without an unrolling/re-reeling process. In rewind slitting the web is unwound and run through the machine, passing through knives or lasers, before being rewound on one or more shafts to form narrower rolls.
