The plasma stream is typically formed by forcing a gas such as nitrogen, oxygen, argon — or even air — through a narrow nozzle.It is used to cut through metal or to cut custom shapes and holes out of plate and sheet metal, straps, bolts and pipes. Once an industrial piece of equipment it is now used by creative artists also and hobbyist so anything from a shipyard to a sculptor could use a plasma cutter.Plasma cutters work by sending an electric arc through a gas that is passing through a constricted opening. The gas can be shop air, nitrogen, argon, oxygen. etc. This elevates the temperature of the gas to the point that it enters a 4th state of matter.
