Isoamyl alcohol, also known as isopentyl alcohol or 3-methyl-1-butanol, is a colorless liquid with a strong, fruity odor. It has the chemical formula (CH3)2CHCH2CH2OH. Isoamyl alcohol is commonly used as a solvent, particularly in the production of various flavors and fragrances. It is also employed as a raw material in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, plasticizers, and other organic compounds. Additionally, isoamyl alcohol finds application as a reagent in chemical reactions and as an additive in the manufacturing of printing inks, coatings, and adhesives.
