Toluene has been included in the mandatory ISI Certification Scheme under IS standard - IS 537. This product cannot be exported/imported or sold in Indian consumer market without ISI Mark imprinted. The Bureau of Indian Standards adopted this Indian Standard after the draft was finalized by Petroleum, Lubricants, and Related Products Sectional Committee and was approved by the Petroleum, Coal, and Related Products Division Council. This standard specifies the requirements and the sampling and testing techniques for toluene. Toluene is a raw material used in the production of alkylated, nitrated, and halogenated organic intermediates for petrochemical dyestuffs and fine chemicals industries. It is also employed as a solvent in formulating paints, coatings, adhesives, and inks.
