What Fiber Mesh Is Fiber mesh for waterproofing is typically alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh used to reinforce liquid or cementitious waterproofing membranes. When embedded into a waterproofing layer, it: • Prevents & controls cracks in the coating • Improves tensile strength and flexibility • Distributes stress evenly across the surface • Enhances bonding with waterproofing compounds 📏 Typical Specs & Max Dimensions There's no universal "max" fiber mesh limit, but common structural specs you'll see for reinforced waterproofing mesh are: Roll Size Usually around 1 m (width) × 50 m (length) — common standard in India and elsewhere. Material Fiberglass (E-glass) with alkali-resistant coating — prevents degradation in cementitious/wet environments. GSM (Weight) & Strength Lightweight meshes: ~45–75 g/m² — basic crack control. Medium: ~80–110 g/m² — balanced strength + flexibility. Heavier duty: ~120–145 g/m² and above — stronger reinforcement for demanding waterproofing. Heavier meshes generally provide greater tensile strength and crack-bridging ability — useful for exterior waterproofing, roofs, terraces, water tanks etc. 📍 How It's Used (Waterproofing Context) Fiber mesh isn't a waterproofing membrane by itself — it's embedded into a waterproofing coating to reinforce it: Apply the first coat of your waterproofing material (liquid membrane, cementitious slurry, PU coating etc.). Lay the mesh into the wet coat, pressing it in so it's fully embedded. Cover with subsequent coats until mesh is no longer visible.
