Milk is chilled by ice to a temperature of 4 0 C or below. It is an intermediate processing before heat treatment of milk. Milk chilling provides ease and ample time for transshipment to processing plant. Chilling of milk minimizes the souring and spoilage.Glycol cooling systems are an integral part of the milk chilling plant process. In the dairy farming industry, these systems are used for cooling milk after pasteurization by capturing and releasing heat. Glycol chillers work fast, keeping temperature and bacteria growth under control 24/7.Promethean's Rapid Milk Chiller is a modular milk chilling system that instantly cools milk from 35o to 4o C without a diesel generator. The system can chill 1000 litres of milk per day, even if there is no power during the milk collection by using only 4 hours of intermittent grid power between each milking shift.Food preservation at low temperature comprises two distinct processes: chill- ing and freezing. Chilling is the application of temperatures in the range of 0°C to 8°C, i.e. above the freezing point of the food, while freezing uses temperatures well below the freezing point, conventionally below 18°C.
