A multi-spindle machine is a screw machine that is made in a way that it can cut materials into small pieces in a simultaneous manner through the use of a number of tools. This machine possesses multiple spindles which are found on a drum that rotates in a horizontal manner.The multiple spindle drilling machine is commonly refered to as a multispindle drill press. This special purpose drill press has many spindles connected to one main work head (Figure 5). All of the spindles are fed into the workpiece at the same time.A single-spindle machine is, of course, a machine with a single spindle, which is often used for lower volume batches. Single-spindle machines are less expensive and more appropriate for very small operations, but for larger operation and high-volume projects, they are less competitive.This machine can make number of holes at different location and also of different sizes. This reduces the time of operations and also increases the accuracy.The multiple spindle head drilling machine is specially designed for mass production operations such as drilling, reaming or tapping many holes at one time in a specific unit of work such as an automobile engine block. There may be two or more drill heads on one machine, each with many spindles, A spindle is a rotating shaft with a fixture for holding a tool (in the case of a milling, grinding, or drilling spindle) or a workpiece (in the case of a turning spindle).
