Vertical turbine pumps, also known as vertical pumps or line shaft pumps, are centrifugal pumps commonly used to transport water from deep underground pits or wells. They consist of a motor, discharge head, one or more pipe columns, line shaft, pump shaft, multiple bowls, impellers, and a suction bell.The Working Principle. Vertical Turbine pumps move in a specific direction and cause the gas molecules to collide with moving solid surfaces. These pumps have a rapidly rotating fan that hits gas molecules and blows them from the inlet towards the outlet. This action causes a vacuum-like state inside the pump chamber.A horizontal centrifugal pump will have its shaft placed horizontally, typically between the bearings or overhung. Meanwhile, a vertical centrifugal pump has a shaft that is oriented vertically. The design of the shaft is radial split and overhang.
