A bifacial solar cell (BSC) is a photovoltaic solar cell that can produce electrical energy when illuminated on both its surfaces, front or rear. Instead, monofacial solar cells only produce electrical energy when photons impinge on their front side.Bifacial modules mounted flush to a rooftop block any reflected light from reaching the backside of the cells. That's why bifacial modules perform better on flat commercial rooftops and ground-mounted arrays, because there is more room for tilt and bouncing reflected light to the rear of the modules.Traditional solar panels are monofacial, with solar cells on only one side of the panels. Bifacial solar panels feature solar cells on both sides.
