Extraction The oil is extracted from the seed part through steam distillation process.Chemical Composition It contains ambrettolide, (Z)-7-hexadecen-16-olide), ambrettolic acid and farnesol.Essential Oil Information The ambrette seed oil is derived from the plant, which is a native plant from India and is popularly known as Mushkdana or Kasturi Bhendi. This is an evergreen shrub and is also cultivated in Chine, West Indies and Indonesia.Oil Properties The ambrette seed oil is extracted from the ripened seeds of Ambrette plant, which is a plant of Malvaceae family native to Indian soil. It is an aromatic and medicinal plant, also known as Mushkdana or Kasturi Bhendi. The pale yellow or red in color oil is non-toxic and is highly used in perfumery, cosmetics and medicines. The oil is light in consistency and high on aroma. Uses The oil is used in making perfumes and other cosmetic products. As medicine it is used in the treatment of cramps, anxiety and other nervous complaints. The ambrette seeds are also mixed with coffee in Arab cultures.
