An industrial Analog Advance Tearing Strength Tester is a manual, pendulum-type device based on the Elmendorf tear test method. It measures the force needed to propagate a tear in a pre-cut sample of materials like fabrics, paper, or plastic films. The "analog" and "advance" designations refer to its operation using a manual pendulum and its high precision compared to older models.Elmendorf tear test method: A sample is held in a clamp and a small, precise slit is made. When the pendulum is released, its stored potential energy is converted into kinetic energy, tearing the sample.Pendulum and scale: The energy absorbed by the tearing action is measured by the subsequent swing of the pendulum. An analog scale, marked from 0 to 100%, indicates the tearing strength.Augmenting weights: To accommodate materials with different tearing resistance, the base capacity (e.g., 1600 grams) can be increased by adding augmenting weights (e.g., to 3200g or 6400g).Manual operation: The pendulum is released manually via a brake pin, and the operator reads the result from the analog scale.Rugged construction: Built with durable, corrosion-resistant materials like mild steel or stainless steel to withstand harsh industrial environments.
