Cylinder mould manufacturing is the best process to make paper that is stable (not liable to be deformed when wet), watermarked, with a natural grain and deckle edges. Today ARCHES® is the only French paper mill still producing fine art and printing papers on a cylinder mould.A papermaking machine utilizing a rotating wire-belt-covered cylinder. As the cylinder rotates, it passes through a tank containing the papermaking furnish. As the water drains though the wire toward the inside of the cylinder, the fibers form the paper web on the wire belt. Mould made papers simulate handmade paper in a mechanised process. These papers can be mistaken for handmade, but there are distinct differences. The mould is not held by the hand; instead it's replaced by a slowly rotating cylinder mould, which picks up the paper stock from the vat.
