A pec deck is a machine designed to increase strength and muscle mass in the chest. It's so effective that the American Council on Exercise ranked it as one of the best exercises for building chest muscles, The fly machine is suitable for increasing chest strength and muscle mass by targeting the pectoralis muscles. Humans have two sets of pectoral muscles on each side of the front of your chest: the pectoralis major and the pectoralis minor.The pec deck machine, or machine fly, as it is more commonly known, is a piece of gym equipment that is made specifically to isolate the chest muscle groups, or pectoral muscle groups from which the name “pec deck” is derived, during workout, thus enabling one to really work those muscles in particular.The pectoralis major is the superior most and largest muscle of the anterior chest wall. It is a thick, fan-shaped muscle that lies underneath the breast tissue and forms the anterior wall of the axilla.The Pec Deck comes with a 150 pound weight stack in 10-pound increments. For real heavy lifters, 200-pound, 250-pound, and 300-pound weight stack upgrades are available, all in 10-pound increments.Both the pec deck (at 98% of muscle activation compared to barbell bench press) and the bent-forward cable crossover (93% of muscle activation) elicited nearly equivalent muscle activation as the barbell bench press.
