A pilot operated solenoid valve is a type of solenoid valve that uses compressed air (or fluid pressure) to assist in moving the main valve, while the solenoid coil only controls a small pilot valve. This design allows the valve to control larger flows with less electrical power. How a Pilot Operated Solenoid Valve Works Compressed air enters the valve (main inlet). The solenoid coil energizes when it receives an electrical signal. The solenoid opens a small pilot valve. The pressure difference moves the main diaphragm or spool. This opens or closes the main air flow path.
