PVC is chosen for its excellent strength, water proof properties, flexibility, transparency, and durability. It is the most cost-effective and versatile tensile fabric, and meets a large range of colour and application needs, both permanent and temporary. PVC is treated to be stain, fire and UV resistant.Two of the most common coated fabrics are Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) coated polyester and Poly Tetra Fluro Ethlene (PTFE) coated glass cloth. PVC Coated Polyester: PVC coated polyester can be a great material choice for both permanent and temporary tensile fabric structures.Tensile structure is the term usually used to refer to the construction of roofs using a membrane held in place on steel cables. Their main characteristics are the way in which they work under stress tensile, their ease of pre-fabrication, their ability to cover large spans, and their malleability.For external Use there are two main choices PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) coated polyester cloth and PTFE (Poly Tetra Fluro Ethlene) (Teflon) coated glass cloth. The PVC coating contains additives that include UV stabilisers, fire retardants, colouring and anti fungicides. When plasticises are added, PVC shows rubber-like elasticity with high tensile strength and fatigue strength, and can be used for industrial hoses, gaskets, automobile parts, and electric cable covering.We both learned a lot from doing this science fair project, regarding the tensile strength of fabrics. We learned that out of the twelve fabrics we tested, natural silk is the strongest fabric, and natural wool is the weakest. Of the synthetic fabrics, denim was the strongest, and flannel was the least strong.
