Reactor Powder Charging is the controlled transfer of powders, granules, or bulk solids into a closed reactor vessel throughout chemical, pharmaceutical, or food-processing operations. The system ensures dust-free, safe, and efficient loading of raw materials—maintaining product integrity and operator safety while meeting GMP and industrial hygiene standards.

Modern powder charging systems integrate vacuum transfer, gravity feeding, lifting & docking assemblies, or sealed charging ports to enable seamless charging without exposure to the environment. This minimizes contamination, prevents material loss, and ensures consistent batching.


Working Principle

  1. Material Preparation
    Powder is collected from bags, drums, bins, or silos using bag dump stations, charging hoppers, or vacuum picks.

  2. Transfer Mechanism
    Depending on process requirements, the system may use:

    • Vacuum conveying (most common for pharma & chemical plants)

    • Gravity charging through charge ports

    • Screw or pneumatic transfer for continuous feeding

  3. Sealed Docking
    A Tri-clamp or split-valve interface connects the charging line to the reactor, creating a closed powder-transfer path.

  4. Feeding & Monitoring
    Powder is charged into the reactor at a controlled rate. Options include:

    • Load cells for batch accuracy

    • Nitrogen blanketing for inerting

    • CIP/WIP arrangements

  5. Completion & Disconnection
    After charging, the system depressurizes, seals, and enables safe disconnection without powder leakage.
