A Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) Plant is an industrial facility designed to blend standard base bitumen with specific polymers (such as SBS, EVA, or Crumb Rubber). This chemical modification improves the elasticity, durability, and temperature resistance of the bitumen, making it highly suitable for extreme weather and heavy-traffic conditions like airport runways and highways. How It Works: The PMB Manufacturing Process Heating the Base Bitumen: Unmodified bitumen is stored in insulated tanks and heated to about  to  to maintain its fluid state. Polymer Introduction: Pre-weighed polymers are fed into the hot bitumen stream via a specialized screw conveyor or hopper. High Shear Mixing & Homogenization: The mixture is pumped through a high shear mill (colloid mill). This high-speed shearing breaks down polymer pieces to disperse them evenly across the bitumen matrix. Stabilisation: The homogenized blend is sent to digestion or stabilizing tanks equipped with continuous agitators to allow the polymer to cross-link and fuse fully.
