They can be fire and STC rated too.Constructed like standard hollow metal doors but with stainless steel components, stainless doors are pleasing to the eye, corrosion resistant, hygienic, fire-resistant and offer unsurpassed durability. Ideal for Interior and Exterior Applications.What a Steel Door Is. A steel door is not solid steel. Steel doors are comprised of either a polyurethane or polystyrene core with a steel skin over the top. A solid steel door would be prohibitively heavy and would most likely tear out the hinges. Steel between 16 and 24 gauge is used for the skin of the door.Steel doors are safer compared to other door materials. They are difficult to damage by an intruder. The steel skin is impervious to most attempts to damage. Steel doors are fire-rated based on the requirements and standard building codes.
