A desiccant dryer or an adsorption dryer is a piece of industrial equipment that uses desiccant materials to eliminated water from the air channeled through it. A standard desiccant dryer system uses a two-tower set up to ensure a continuous air drying cycle. Heatless desiccant air dryers use a desiccant in twin towers – one for drying, and the other for regeneration. Wet compressed air enters the drying tower and passes over the desiccant which adsorbs it and exits as dry air (dew point between –40 and –100° F).Silica gel causes irritation and redness when contact with the eyes or skin occurs. It becomes painful when the silica gel absorbs fluids around the eye. Inhalation of silica gel is another risk; breathing-in may cause lung irritation, coughing and dyspnoea (short of breath).
