Laminar air flow is air flow that constantly moves at the same speed in the same direction. In cleanrooms, a vertical laminar flow room is an enclosure where 100% of the ceiling provides filtered air downwards from the ceiling. Because of the 100% filter coverage, it creates an ultra-clean environment.Laminar flow hoods are available in horizontal or vertical airflow configurations. A horizontal flow hood will move air from the back of the unit through HEPA or ULPA filters and to the front of the work surface. A vertical flow hood will move air from the top of the unit through filters and down to the work surface.Horizontal laminar flow hoods more often have filters located on the back wall. Unidirectional filtered air is then passed horizontally from the rear, straight across the work surface. Vertical laminar flow hoods typically have a top or ceiling mounted filter.There are two main types of laminar flow hoods: horizontal flow and vertical flow
