A stretch roll refers to a type of roll or packaging material primarily used in the logistics and packaging industry. It is made of a stretchable plastic film, often polyethylene (PE), which is used to wrap products securely. The film stretches as it is applied, which helps it tightly adhere to the product or pallet being wrapped, offering protection and stability during storage and transport. Material: Primarily made from polyethylene or polypropylene. Stretch film can be blown or cast to achieve different stretch characteristics The thickness determines the strength and puncture resistance of the film. Width: Stretch rolls can range from 4 inches (100mm) to 20 inches (500mm) or more, depending on the size of the item or load being wrapped. Length: Length of the roll depends on the application and the required coverage, often ranging from 1,000 feet to 6,000 feet. Stretch Ability: Most stretch films can elongate up to 100% to 300% of their original length. This provides good wrap tension. Cling: Stretch films may have high cling properties that allow the film to adhere tightly to the load without the need for additional adhesives. Color: Typically clear for visibility, but black or opaque films are also available for added security or protection from UV light. Uses: Palletizing: Pallet wrapping is the most common use. Stretch rolls are used to secure and stabilize goods on pallets, reducing shifting during transport. Securing Loads: It’s ideal for securing irregularly shaped loads or smaller items that need to stay in place during shipping. Protection: Protects products from dust, dirt, moisture, and tampering. It can also act as a barrier from scratches or scuffs during transit. Cost-Effective Packaging: It is a low-cost and highly efficient packaging material for many types of products, especially when compared to other methods like strapping or shrink wrapping. Temperature and UV Protection: Certain stretch films are designed with UV-resistant properties or designed for use in cold storage environments. Bundling: Used to bundle items together (e.g., stacking cases of bottled products) for easier handling and transportation. Food Industry: Used in food packaging to secure products while allowing the goods to breathe, thus preventing moisture buildup. Handheld and Machine Stretching: Available for manual hand wrapping (using a hand-held dispenser) or machine wrapping (using automatic stretch film machines).
