Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) is a lightweight, precast, foam concrete building material suitable for producing concrete masonry unit like blocks. Composed of quartz sand, calcined gypsum, lime, cement, water and aluminum powder, AAC products are cured under heat and pressure in an autoclave.This leads to the formation of tiny cells causing the slurry mix to expand. Such expansion may be thrice its original volume. The bubble size is about 2- 5mm. Thus, this is the reason behind the lightweight and insulating properties of the AAC block.
