Key Characteristics and Features: High Strength:The "80" in the designation signifies a minimum tensile strength of 80,000 psi (kilopounds per square inch). Low-Alloy Content:It's a low-alloy steel, meaning it has small additions of alloying elements beyond basic iron and carbon. Molybdenum Alloying:The 0.5% molybdenum content enhances tensile strength and creep resistance. Manganese and Silicon Deoxidizers:These elements are present in high amounts to control porosity and improve weld quality when using CO2 as a shielding gas. Copper-Coated:Many ER80S-D2 wires are copper-coated for better feedability and arc stability, although non-copper-coated versions also exist.
