Double Roll Crushers typically follow a primary or secondary crusher and are used for secondary and tertiary reduction of various minerals, such as ROM coal, clean coal, limestone, gypsum, trona, shale, bauxite, oil shale, coke, salt, lime, glass, kaolin, brick, shale and wet, sticky feeds.Both single-roll and double-roll crushers are designed with tramp oversize protection, which allows either the stationary crushing plate (in singleroll systems) or one of the toothed rolls (in double-roll systems) to move and open up the gap if a large, unbreakable piece enters the machine.A type of secondary or reduction crusher consisting of a heavy frame on which two rolls are mounted. These are driven so that they rotate toward one another. Rock fed in from above is nipped between the moving rolls, crushed, and discharged at the bottom.In a roll crusher comminution primarily involves individual particles nipped between converging roller surfaces. The forces of compression and friction between the rolls and particles are responsible for size reduction, provided the combined forces exceed the compressive strength of the particle.
