ER2209 is a duplex stainless steel filler metal designed for welding duplex and austenitic-ferritic stainless steels, offering high tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and resistance to stress corrosion cracking. It achieves a balanced austenite-ferrite microstructure with approximately 40% ferrite, providing a combination of strength and ductility for applications in demanding industries such as oil & gas, chemical processing, and marine. Available in MIG and TIG forms, ER2209 provides stable arc characteristics, smooth wire feeding, and a clean, spatter-free weld bead. Key characteristics and uses: Composition:ER2209 is a dual-phase filler metal composed of approximately 22% chromium, 5-9% nickel, and 3% molybdenum. Purpose:It is specifically formulated to weld duplex stainless steels, such as UNS S31803 or 2205. Microstructure:The deposited weld metal contains a balanced mix of austenite and ferrite, which contributes to its superior properties. Mechanical Properties:ER2209 provides high tensile strength and good toughness. Corrosion Resistance:It offers excellent resistance to both pitting and stress corrosion cracking in aggressive environments.
