Mixing concrete is simply defined as the "complete blending of the materials which are required for the production of a homogeneous concrete" (Young, 267). This can vary from hand to machine mixing, with machine mixing being the most common. As per the experts, the safest cement mix ratio for all kinds of concrete used in different construction purposes is 4:2:1. It means 4 parts of crushed stones mixed with 2 parts of sand and 1 part of cement will create the ideal cement mix to prepare concrete for all purposes. Concrete workability basically refers to how easily freshly mixed concrete can be placed, consolidated and finished with minimal loss of homogeneity. Generally the workability of concrete is determined by how fluid the mix is (i.e. the cement to water ratio).
